Salary: $35.71/hour

Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM

This is skilled manual public works maintenance and construction work requiring a good functional knowledge of departmental procedures and policies. An incumbent of this class conducts physical assessments pertaining to public after hours enquiries and service requests related to municipal sewer, water, drainage, sanitation and or road infrastructure which may include areas such as roads, sidewalks, structures, medians, signs, road markings, benches, street lights or bus shelters. Other responsibilities include performing routine maintenance, inspection and repair on public works infrastructure, removes or arranges for the removal of immediate hazards; lays out, assists in and directs the work of labourers engaged in manual maintenance tasks, directs equipment operators and truck drivers to ensure adherence to the appropriate safety standards. An Operations Maintenance Worker receives and documents enquiries; prepares written incident reports, recommends necessary follow up and prepares work orders for approval by a supervisor. Operates a variety of City vehicles used in transporting small equipment, parts, materials, supplies, tools and employees to job sites; loads and unloads of the same and maintains vehicle as required. Provides a variety of department information to internal contacts on matters related to the work. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 and sound related experience including some experience as a crew leader or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in public works maintenance and construction work as they relate to the work performed and of the applicable safety standards and requirements. In addition, considerable knowledge of the City’s water, sewer, drainage, sanitation and/or road infrastructure related to the work performed. An incumbent will have the ability to assess and troubleshoot deficiencies in various public works infrastructure and recommend corrective actions; to maintain and update records and to prepare periodic statistical and narrative reports related to the work performed. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal contacts; to physically perform the work required and have skill in the use of a variety of power and hand tools and equipment used in the work. A Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required, and EOCP Water Distribution Level 1 Certification and EOCP Wastewater Collection Level 1 Certification is considered an asset.
