Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the Senior Specialist, Communications plays a critical role in building and maintaining AltaGas’ public image and conveying the AltaGas story to stakeholders and external audiences through a variety of platforms. This person will develop and execute strategic communication plans around AltaGas’ environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives; support media relations; and promote the Company’s growing Export business and successful utilities. The Senior Specialist, Communications will be expected to work collaboratively within a high-performing team contributing to the communications team’s success.   


What you’ll be doing: 

  • Creating content for external distribution via the Company’s communications channels as well as through earned media, particularly as it relates to ESG initiatives
  • Managing content for the Company’s website and social channels
  • Writing and editing reports for publication to key stakeholders, including essential annual disclosure documents; and collaborating with Investor Relations to support outreach
  • Supporting media relations—providing strategic advice and preparing responses to inquiries
  • Developing and executing communications plans for Midstream division to promote the Company’s Global Export strategy
  • Partnering with stakeholder relations to supportive effective outreach strategies, including supporting community events as required
  • Staying abreast of what is happening in the company by forming and fostering relationships with employees across the company to generate content for external distribution
  • Evaluating and measuring success of communications campaigns to improve effectiveness
  • Planning and executing external corporate events such as the Annual General Meeting


What you must have:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline 
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in the communications field with corporate and media relations experience with a public company
  • Demonstrated experience managing corporate websites and digital media
  • Requires exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal – and the ability to meet deadlines, and work under pressure on several projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of company personnel, including senior management
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to design and execute communications campaigns
  • Experience with social media tools, as well as design software such as Adobe suite of products would be an asset as would internet and website technical skills.
  • Strong command of Office 365 Suite of products including SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
  • Experience with corporate environmental, social and governance reporting is an asset
  • Knowledge of the Gas and Utility industries is an asset
