We are currently seeking a talented Senior Human Resources Advisor – Labour Relations to work as part of the Human Resources team providing labour and employee relations expertise on a wide variety of issues and topics in a diverse multi-union environment. This role will work in collaboration with managers, employees and union representatives and provide support and guidance in the following areas and programs: grievance management, return to work and accommodation, workplace investigations, attendance management, policy research and advice and assisting in the development and delivery of labour relations training. Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume labour and employee relations portfolio with tact and diplomacy, as well as, effectively problem solve complex and sensitive issues using a fact based approach is key. Our objective is to provide effectively reasoned recommendations throughout all levels of management while working collaboratively towards a resolve in the best interest of the City of Burnaby and its employees. Performs related work as required.


The ideal candidate brings a balanced perspective to resolving workplace issues and is an exceptional team player with outstanding oral and written communication skills. The ability to build and foster productive relationships with employees, co-workers and union representatives while creating and encouraging an environment of openness, trust and collaboration is essential. Advanced MS Word and PowerPoint skills coupled with sound knowledge of current principles and best practices in labour relations are required. Outstanding coaching, problem solving, planning and organizational skills are needed while working in a high volume, fast paced environment. Hours of work: 70 hours bi-weekly; 8:00 AM to 4:45 PM with a nine-day fortnight schedule.
