Are you looking to begin your municipal career? Reporting to the Business Manager Solid Waste & Recycling, the Clerk 2 (Solid Waste & Recycling) is responsible for providing assistance and information to the public and staff regarding recycling, green waste and food scrap collection, and garbage collection, and a wide range of recycling opportunities at the Burnaby Eco-Centre.  As part of our frontline staff, you will be a key resource in helping the City and its residents meet ambitious goals for reducing waste and increasing recycling and composting. You will also create service requests for pickup of unwanted furniture, mattresses, and appliances, and new recycling and garbage receptacles.  You will assist operations staff in resolving service concerns and issues. You will join a supportive team who cares about recycling and waste diversion.

In this role, you will prepare service requests, records, files, and use a variety of software programs to support Solid Waste and Recycling operations. We place a strong emphasis on customer service skills dealing effectively with both external and internal clients via telephone and email while compiling and reviewing information and data.  Examples of work include entering and extracting data from Infor/Hansen, analyzing information on spreadsheets, and general office duties to assist others in Solid Waste Operations. Performs other related work as required. 

Qualifications include the completion of Grade 12, including or supplemented by courses in typing, word processing and customer service courses, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  The position requires strong clerical skills; the ability to prioritize work effectively; good attention to detail as well as ability to work as part of a team or work independently; to make decisions in accordance with Solid Waste regulations, departmental policies and procedures.  The ability to utilize email, word processing and spreadsheet software such as MS Word, Outlook and Excel is preferred. Excellent customer service skills are required, with the ability to deal effectively with all internal and external contacts.

Part-time hours of work (Tuesdays and Fridays) are currently required (8:15 AM - 4:45 PM).  Additional hours will be available as service requirements dictate. This position works out of the Solid Waste & Recycling worksite at Still Creek Works Yard.
