We’re looking for Equipment Custodians to join our Public Safety & Community Services Department at the Burnaby RCMP Detachment. You’re a responsible and organized person, with a clear respect for and understanding of the safe handling and operation of firearms. People trust you because you’re honest, forthright, and have sound judgement. You uphold one of the City of Burnaby’s greatest values: Integrity. Your responsibilities in this position include: tracking, receiving, issuing and storing a variety of weapons and police equipment; maintaining a variety of weapons and equipment such as charging, troubleshooting and conducting minor repairs; packing and sending weapons and equipment for major repairs; examining ammunition for quality control purposes; preparing equipment kits for members; and maintaining records of weapons and equipment. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12, supplemented by courses related to the work, plus sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You should be able to lift and carry heavy equipment items. You can use spreadsheets, databases, and perform simple word processing. Multitasking and working efficiently during busy times is part of your skillset. You also have sound knowledge of the various types and uses of weapons and police equipment, and are familiar with the safety regulations for the handling of weapons. You can also work independently and use sound judgement when applying established guidelines and procedures to different situations. A BC Driver’s Licence is required for this role, as well as the ability to obtain and maintain an Enhanced RCMP Security Clearance.
