Reporting to the Trades Foreman 2, this is semi-skilled and skilled carpentry work of considerable variety below the Journeyperson level, but requiring involvement in and phases of Journeyperson’s work.  An entry-level apprentice performs manual and semi-skilled tasks of moderate difficulty in the Carpentry trade. On-the-job training for tasks such as building construction and repair, cabinet making duties, planning and constructing a variety of specialized wooden structures, making estimates of time and materials needed for carpentry tasks and in reading and working from blueprints and sketches. As required, performs other related duties. Tasks of increasing complexity are assigned as the incumbent progresses successfully through the apprenticeship. Apprentices are required to attend in-school training as directed by the Industry Trade Authority. The apprentice’s work  will  be  checked  while  in  progress  to  ensure  proficiency,  attainment  of  desired objectives, and that established standards are met.

Completion of Grade 12 is required for this apprenticeship opportunity. Applicants require a basic understanding of the standard practices, methods, tools, materials and equipment used in the Carpentry trade. Completion of a pre-apprenticeship or entry-level training program would be an asset. Preference will also be given to applicants with relevant education, experience and a related background, or those who have some knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and equipment used in this Trade.

Additional requirements are as follows:

•              Satisfactory attendance, safety and performance record;

•              Ability to work in a team environment and to maintain effective relationships with coworkers;

•              Ability and aptitude for this work;

•              Knowledge of safety principles for this Trade;

•              Ability to meet the physical demands of the work;

•              Valid BC Driver’s Licence, Class 5 and Abstract.

This is a Temporary Full Time position to May 1, 2024.
