The City of Burnaby has an exciting opportunity to lead, manage and coach a team of highly dedicated Human Resource professionals! Reporting to the City Manager, the Director of Human Resources is part of the City’s core executive team and performs a key role in supporting the on-going development and implementation of the City’s vibrant strategic plan, encompassing all critical facets of human resources, such as staffing, employee engagement, learning and development, organization design and change management, compensation and benefits, employee and labour relations, collective bargaining and health and safety. This crucial position advises and collaborates with senior staff on human resource strategic matters to ensure the department is delivering the best possible people practices and employee engagement at the City. Additionally, the role directs the development, implementation and transformation of essential policies and practices which support corporate strategic objectives, and a harmonious application for the City’s most valuable resources, its employees!
The ideal candidate will have a Degree or post graduate studies in Business Administration, Human Resources (e.g. Industrial Relations) or a related field, supplemented by ten (10) years of senior level HR management experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in a complex unionized environment. Chartered Professional Human Resources (CPHR) Designation preferred! The role requires proven expertise of human resource functional areas, organizational, leadership, planning and communication skills, strong negotiation as well as mediation and facilitation skills.
