We’re looking for enthusiastic team players to be part of the buzz at our City recreation and cultural centres! As a Recreation Clerk 1, you’ll be up-front-and-centre as a representative of the City, greeting guests and making sure that their experience is the best that it can be. Love going that extra mile? Then this job is for you! With so much interaction with the public, you should be friendly, courteous, with a knack for customer service. You should also be a great multi-tasker since you’ll need to juggle public contact, clerical and typing work, and scheduling. You should also be a team player who can maintain great relationships with the public and with your co-workers. A happy team makes for a great working environment! As a Recreation Clerk 1, some of your responsibilities will include acting as a go-to person with and between groups and individuals using facilities as well as those registering for various programs; maintaining booking and registration schedules; receiving cash and issuing receipts; and reminding patrons of rules and regulations regarding proper use of facilities. Performs related work as required.
To qualify, you’ll need to have completed Grade 12 including or supplemented by commercial and typing courses plus sound related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You have to have front line customer service experience, as well as cash handling, POS systems and cash management experience. You also have administrative know-how that includes knowledge of relevant software application systems. In other words, you know your way around Word, Excel, Outlook and other basic office software. It’s important that you’re a keen and eager learner since members of the public will rely on your knowledge of department facilities, programs, booking and registration procedures. As you’ll be asked to compose emails and reports, you should have some understanding of business English, as well as proper grammar and spelling. An ability to type rapidly and accurately is important, especially during busy times at our recreation centres.
