Historian, First World War

As a Historian, First World War, you will be responsible for curating exhibitions, conducting complex research, sharing your knowledge with multiple audiences, and shaping Canadians’ understanding of the impact of military history in shaping the country.

What we are looking for:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to establish working relationships with individuals at all levels;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and work under pressure;
  • Demonstratable communication, presentation, and writing skills;
  • Bilingual (French and English).

Relevant experience in:

  • Conducting complex and extensive research on Canadian military history for the period identified;
  • Writing books, monographs, and articles on Canadian military history;
  • Disseminating research to a variety of audiences, both public and academic;
  • Working in museums, universities, galleries, public history environments, cultural centres, etc.

Demonstrable knowledge of:

  • Canadian military history, with an emphasis on the years 1885 to 1931;
  • Museum and public history methods and practices in collections, research, exhibitions, and programming;
  • The general history of war and armed conflict.

Education: A Master’s degree (minimum) or Doctoral degree (preferred) in the requisite disciplines, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Compensation: $ 68,248 to $ 84,660
Status: Permanent Full-Time Position (# 10131)
Location: 1, Vimy Place, Ottawa, Ontario
Security Clearance: Enhanced reliability
