Do you want to make a difference? Join the world’s largest humanitarian network. The Canadian Red Cross Society, a not for profit, humanitarian organization dedicate to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is currently seeking a Delivery Driver (Casual).


Within the Mobile Food Bank and under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Delivery Driver is responsible for delivering food boxes to clients from the home base located at 557 Dixon Rd, Toronto.

The Mobile Food Bank is a unique, community program that provides food hampers to low income people in Toronto, who are experiencing disabilities that do not allow them to access a regular walk-in food bank.

As a Casual Delivery Driver, there are no guaranteed hours throughout the week. 


  • Vehicle safety and oversight; daily inspection; documentation in log book; report irregularities to supervisor; vehicles taken in for regular and emergency maintenance.
  • Arrive promptly at home base to load cargo van with deliveries for the day.
  • Follow set delivery route for the day.
  • Deliver food hampers to between 15-25 individual clients.
  • May be required to pick up pallets of food from food depots using cube van.
  • Report any client feedback and/or health and safety concerns, to supervisor.
  • Adhere to all reporting requirements, e.g. completion of duty sheets, mileage log, accidents/incidents documentation, and vehicle inspection forms.
  • Ensure that the exterior and interior of vehicle are clean and presentable.
  • Follow all policies and procedures as required to maintain a healthy and safe working environment.



The minimum qualifications, skills, assets and abilities for this job include:

  • High school diploma is a minimum educational requirement
  • Valid class G Ontario Driver’s License
  • Minimum of two years’ driving experience in Toronto 
  • Clean driver’s abstract (must be supplied by applicant)
  • High level of comfort to drive large G class vehicles (cube/cargo van) 
  • Ability to repeatedly lift up to 35lbs
  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills
  • Knowledge of city streets and/or use of Google maps/GPS
  • High tolerance for traffic congestion and possible adverse weather conditions
  • High tolerance for unsanitary living conditions which may be encountered
  • Understanding of issues affecting those living in poverty


Frequently will include:

  • working alone while on deliveries in the community
  • repetitive, heavy lifting (loading and unloading full hampers and coolers)
  • traffic congestion; difficulty locating authorized parking
  • repeated exposure to extreme weather driving and delivering to clients

Occasionally may include:

  • unpleasant physical environments: outdoors during winter (icy walkways etc); indoors in clients’ homes (hoarding, uncontrolled pets, second hand smoke etc) --- could constitute some level of risk
  • unpleasant client contact (displays of anger, discontent, abusive behaviour) --- could constitute some level of risk
