Volunteer

LOCATION: Sault Ste. Marie and District

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking Office Administration Volunteers for the Community Health and Wellness Department.  Reporting to the Community Support Services Coordinators.

 

 
 Responsibilities

  • Process general phone and walk-in inquiries
  • Provide program information to clients and/or transfer them to appropriate program staff
  • Respond to offer to volunteer inquiries and direct candidate appropriately
  • Make referrals to other community agencies
  • General office duties such as telephoning, faxing, shredding, photocopying, filing, receiving and distributing mail to various departments within the office
  • Graciously accepts donations to the Society in person, and issues general non-tax receipts
  • Support staffing through the recruitment, orientation and onboarding of personnel
  • Provide welcome services and facilitation of orientation sessions to new personnel.
  • Prepare, update and maintain program manuals, orientation packages and training materials
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Word, MS Outlook and internet is required
  • Education in Office Management or related field and/or an equivalent experience is an asset
  • Commitment to Red Cross Fundamental Principles and modeling of the core competencies of the CRCS which are: team excellence, service excellence, accountability and results focused.
  • Passion for humanitarian work

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service and communications skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
  • Ability to learn and adapt to Red Cross specific software platforms
  • Ability to work independently, be punctual and reliable
  • Six-month commitment.
  • Availability during office hours, Monday - Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
  • Minimum 4 hours per week

Working Conditions 

  • The majority of the work is performed in an office environment
