The Learning and Development (L&D) Centre plays a pivotal role in implementing established , national standards and processes for all learning solutions offered by the Canadian Red Cross Society.  The L&D Centre also plays a key role in promoting a culture of lifelong learning that offers opportunities for volunteers and employees to participate in an ongoing process of acquiring skills and knowledge.  Reporting to the Coordinator, Learning and Development (L&D), the Virtual Classroom (VC) Producer is responsible for assisting in the smooth and effective delivery of virtual classroom training using Adobe Connect. The Virtual Classroom Producer supports the successful facilitation of courses to volunteers and employees across Canada requiring training.




Responsibility: Supports course delivery 100%     


  • Provides real-time technical support to virtual classroom participants before, during, and after VC sessions.

  • Assist with any practice or prep work for facilitators and participants and ensures all technical components are functional prior to the session.

  • Verifies proper virtual classroom set up and configuration by joining early and ensures room gets returned to its original state after use.

  • Follows materials and guidelines related to tool use and VC delivery.

  • Manages the successful use of the Adobe Connect tool to run the virtual classroom by implementing platform features to optimize interactions and activities (ie. Launch applications, set-up breakout rooms, and manage polling for the presenter).

  • Manages Chat questions and Parking Lot during the session.

  • Aids the facilitator in ensuring the sessions run smoothly and on schedule.

  • Provides feedback as needed and notes participant questions and parking lot items for team follow-up.

  • Completes any post-session reporting as required.

  • Participates in learning and development initiatives and projects as needed.

  • Participates in emergency planning, preparation, response, and debriefing, as required.

  • Contributes to a healthy and safe working environment;

  • Performs other duties, as required.         




The incumbent must have the commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Movement and model the core competencies of the CRCS: team excellence, service excellence, accountability and results focused.   This volunteer position requires a satisfactory Canadian criminal record reference check.




  • Training in information technology or Learning and Development with a minimum of one-year work related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.




  • Working knowledge of Adobe Connect and adult learning principles is an asset.

Most of the work is performed virtually from a home/remote location with access to a computer and internet. 

This position is supported by a distance supervisor. 

Flexible availability is required to accommodate session timing across Canada.

Incumbents will need access to the following to ensure their ability to perform tasks and fulfil role requirement:

  • A computer in working order with the following:

    • High speed internet connection

    • A microphone

    • High quality webcam

    • Access to a phone and hands-free headset device


The time commitment for this position varies depending on course schedules and team availability, however is generally 5-10 hours per week.
