Description

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking a summer student for the Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP). Reporting to the Client Services Coordinator, the student will provide support to the Victoria location in the areas of Customer Service and Volunteer support.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide customer service and volunteer support to the Health Equipment Loan Program
  • Provide support to enhance the profile of the Canadian Red Cross in the community
  • Maintain quality control by ensuring Red Cross quality assurance standards are met
  • Assist with orientation and training of customer service volunteers
  • Provide support to other Red Cross programs as required
  • Entering new referrals
  • Entering “unfilled” referrals into database
  • Emailing clients with overdue equipment
  • Preparing equipment manuals
  • General office duties such as filing, photocopying, answering phones, etc

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Education and Experience:

The preferred qualifications for this position include education, experience or an interest in customer service, administration or the medical field. 

Applicants must also meet the criteria established by our external funding, which includes:

  • Must be between 15 - 30 years of age at the start of employment;
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
     

Abilities and Skills:

 Assets:

  • Switchboard experience
  • Experience working with volunteers, diverse populations, and/or in the not-for-profit sector
  • Fluency in a second language
  • Valid First Aid Certification
  • Familiarity with medical equipment

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • 35-hour work week, Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday (site dependent) with the majority of the work performed in an office environment.
  • This position is subject to a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Social Insurance Number

Please note that there is no relocation package for this position.

This position requires a successful Canadian criminal record, reference check, valid provincial driver’s license, and First Aid certification (training provided). The Canadian Red Cross Society is an equal opportunity employer.
