OPERATIONS MANAGER

Site: Kamloops

YOUR ROLE

Reporting to the Mill Manager, the Operations Manager will lead and optimize pulp manufacturing at the Kamloops Mill. The successful candidate will have an advanced level of knowledge and a demonstrated track record in leading and managing world-class safety performance, as well as expertise in pulp production, human relations and continuous improvement.  Knowledge in work design and a strong technical background would be an asset. This position oversees the Fibreline, Power & Recovery, and Logistic areas. This role provides significant succession potential in Kruger’s mill manufacturing system. 

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible safety, environment, quality  and costs while achieving production goals
  • Overall responsibilities for manufacturing costs and budgeting for the operations areas
  • Provides trained personnel, as it relates to job duties, departmental testing activities, and awareness of the responsibilities, authorities, and interrelationships of position-related personnel who manage, perform, and verify work affecting their areas
  • Involvement in emergency and safety response and preparedness, and has authority to initiate mill or mill area shutdown or slowdown based on environmental emergency or compliance issues
  • Responsible for warehouse management and shipments
  • Responsible for the integrity of the work processes and practices within the Power & Recovery  and Pulping Business Systems
  • Is responsible for the Operations Business Systems which assures compliance to the ISO 9001:2015 AND ISO 14001:2015 standards
  • Responsible for ensuring a commitment to continuous improvement and the prevention of pollution
  • Co-ordinates with Operations personnel to ensure that the Kamloops Pulp Business System is understood, implemented, continuously monitored and improved
  • Oversees Corrective and Preventive Action procedures
  • Responsible for production planning, including shutdown scheduling
  • Reporting of key metrics to corporate
  • Participates in the ISO Management Review process

 

YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong technical knowledge in kraft pulping
  • Advanced knowledge is shipping and logistics
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Expertise in reliability
  • Able to develop a team for succession planning
  • In-depth knowledge of business principles
  • Advanced knowledge of continuous improvement principles and techniques
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Advanced knowledge of capital budgets and long-range planning
  • Skilled in change management
  • Knowledge in pulp sales
  • Working knowledge of BC Hydro rate structures and purchase agreements
  • Knowledge in work design would be an asset

 

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field
  • You have a minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in pulp operations
