POSITION SUMMARY:  

Are you a dynamic and experienced public affairs professional? This job might be for you! Working with the Department Lead, you will directly contribute to the implementation of the organization’s public affairs and government relations strategies.

Government and Stakeholder Relations

  • Undertake delegated government relations activities under the supervision of the department Lead, including building and maintaining relationships with key contacts, and arranging and providing support in government relations and stakeholder meetings

  • Execute advocacy activities including assisting with event planning and management, developing campaign materials, and engaging with an alliance of partners to amplify key issues

  • Develop and maintain stakeholder lists including association memberships

  • Provide back-end support to the department Lead by triaging/responding to requests as directed, drafting correspondence, distributing reports as requested and in a timely manner, preparing and updating policies as directed and ensuring compliance

Issues Monitoring and Management:

  • Using a range of tools, monitor and conduct research on relevant public policy, legislative, regulatory, political and social issues in relation to the aging and health care industry

  • Provide analysis as well as viable options and recommendations for positions, actions, strategies and partnerships

  • Prepare and distribute briefing notes and summaries of key public policy, legislative, health care and business issues

  • Support SE Health’s thought leadership and social media presence

Strategic Communications:

  • Prepare a variety of long and short communications materials to support public affairs and strategic brand initiatives brand including briefing notes, slide presentations, statements, submissions, reports, articles and social media posts

  • Ensure quality, accuracy and effectiveness of complex communications materials

  • Develop and maintain library of key stats, slides, graphics and best practices/models to support public affairs activities, thought leadership and external brand positioning

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts internally and externally as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Three to five years’ experience in public affairs (e.g. industry association, government relations consultancy, political office)

  • Degree or diploma in public policy, political science, public administration or a related field

  • Demonstrated understanding of the structure and function of the three levels of government in Canada and legislative processes

  • Superior written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated research and analysis skills

  • Must be flexible, work quickly and under pressure

  • Tact and diplomacy

  • Comfortable with technology, including high-level skills in MS Word and PowerPoint

  • Familiarity with aging issues and/or health care system an asset
