Indigenous Health Lead, Ontario

For more than 20 years the SE Health First Nations, Inuit and Métis Program has been working respectfully alongside Indigenous communities to co-develop / co-design initiatives, health service solutions and supports, education, resources and tools.

The landscape of health care delivery is changing for Indigenous people across Canada, with the transformation of health care delivery to nation led solutions.  The SE Health First Nations, Inuit and Métis Program firmly believes that Indigenous people, communities, and organizations have the answers to what is required to build solutions that meet their needs.  Supporting communities and organizations to build these solutions is our goal.  Reporting to the VP of Education and Indigenous Relations this important role will be responsible for strategic engagement with Indigenous people, communities and organization to identify how and where the SE Health First Nations, Inuit and Métis Program can meaningfully support Indigenous led health care solutions and programs.  This position will also engage Ontario First Nations to meaningfully participate in Ontario specific initiatives being led by SE Health in areas such as telehealth delivery, virtual care, health innovations etc.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree required
  • 10+ years of related experience is required
  • A person of First Nations, Inuit or Métis ancestry is preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of First Nations, Inuit and Métis culture, history, challenges, issues and strengths
  • Work experience with First Nations, Inuit and Métis health programs is required
  • Senior level engagement experience with Indigenous communities, organizations and governments
  • Expert knowledge of Ontario provincial and Federal government operations and systems
  • Expert knowledge of Indigenous health and social systems
  • Must have network of established and trusted relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations and all levels of government in Ontario
  • Expert communication, networking and relationship building skills
  • Skilled presenter and facilitator
  • Computers skills proficient for the role as a Health Lead
  • Ability to travel
  • Expert ability to prepare presentations and written reports including recommendations for SE Heath’s First Nations, Inuit and Métis Program
  • Background in health or social services delivery
  • Graduate degree in health, public health or social education or in business with an undergraduate degree in health
  • Valid driver’s license
  • COVID Vaccines UTD
  • Clear CRC required
