2nd Engineer

Location:                     Offshore Newfoundland

 Overview

Siem Offshore Canada, formerly Secunda Canada, is a well-known offshore Marine Company and our primary area of operation is Eastern Canada.  The expertise of our personnel stems from working over two decades in our harsh weather environment as the leader of support services in platform supply, anchor handling, rescue standby and towage.

We are currently accepting resumes for experienced and qualified 2nd Engineers for positions working in offshore Newfoundland working a 28 day on/off rotation for a 3+ month contract beginning (tentatively) in May 2024.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Second Engineer is responsible for performing all planned maintenance activities in accordance with the vessels’ program as instructed by the Chief Engineer.  Ensure that all hazardous work is carried out under controlled conditions and all safety procedures observed.  Maintain up-to-date inventories of engine room spare parts, stores and supplies, training and supervision of junior engineers and engineering cadets, ensure safe and efficient engine room watchkeeping and machinery performance monitoring in accordance with applicable regulations.

 

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes:

Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications, experience, and personal attributes.

  • 2nd Class Motor Certificate of Competency
  • Valid Marine Basic or Marine Advanced First Aid and CPR
  • Valid Unrestricted Transport Canada Marine Medical
  • Ship Personnel with Designated Security Duties certificate
  • Proven track record in relevant offshore experience within the marine sector; recent offshore standby experience on a PSV or AHTS vessel is strongly preferred
  • Experience with Wartsila vessel systems considered an asset
  • Valid Canadian passport; Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status
  • WHMIS
  • H2S
  • Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats Certificate considered an asset
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English
  • Experience with TM Master is an asset
  • Self-starter, analytical and problem-solving capabilities, demonstrated effectiveness in working with charterers, safety leadership and employee/team development
  • Preference given to qualified candidates who are residents of NL
