About the Role

Provides front-line delivery of the Solid Space Labs machine and software support to users of the Solid Space Prototyping Lab, during periods of heavy undergraduate use. Runs the laser cutting jobs for students, monitors students' use of woodworking machines, and runs the 3D printer as needed.

Qualifications

High school graduation and one year of post-secondary education or formal program equivalent including training in computer-aided design (CAD) software packages graphics art applications and machinery design and fabrication.  2 years of related experience.  An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.

  • Ability to use the 2D vector programs (e.g. CorelDraw) at an intermediate level.
  • Basic knowledge of the principals of 3D CAD/modeling software and programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of safe workshop power tool use (e.g. band saws, drill press, sanders) including maintenance procedures.
  • Good knowledge of a variety of low-tech fabrication techniques, from traditional sculpting, vacuum forming, and mould making to wood joinery
  • Ability to prepare technical documentation and/or user guides for mechanical and related equipment.

Additional Information

The assignment start/end dates are: September 13, 2024 to December 12, 2024.

Priority will be given to qualified registered SFU students who must submit a Fall 2024 class schedule with their application. This is a part-time position working varied hours biweekly. There are 3 positions available.
