Health & Counselling Services (HCS) comprises a well-functioning, multidisciplinary health and counselling team consisting of MOAs, physicians, nurses, psychiatrist, counsellors, psychologists, and administrative staff.  HCS provides services to three campuses valuing and promoting student health and well-being through inclusion, respect, compassion and empathy. About the Role

Being the first point of contact, this position has one of the most important functions in supporting students with accessing Health & Counselling Services (HCS).  As a member of the MOA team offers the best customer experience through an empathetic and compassionate response to the needs and circumstances of students and connects them to services at HCS. Ensures front-line operations are upheld at a high level of effectiveness and efficiency, and provides support services to HCS clinical staff.

Collaborative, respectful, and accountable in contributing to a well-functioning team – the MOA team shares work duties & responsibilities; its imperative that the team functions well in supporting efficient and effective daily operations of the clinics.  Exceptional customer care and communication skills, demonstrating a high degree of empathy and compassion.  Welcoming all patients & visitors with respect, kindness, valuing diversity, health, and wellness. It is important that team members support each other with workload when able (i.e. help with answering phone calls, escort patients to exam room, complete tasks and referrals, stock rooms, etc.).  Ability to appropriately screen and prioritize urgency of patient/client care while maintaining a calm, patient, kind, and non-judgmental demeanor.

Qualifications

High school graduation and one year of post-secondary education or formal equivalent (e.g. Medical Office Assistant Program) which includes Microsoft Word, electronic health record system training, some Microsoft Excel experience, database and spreadsheet courses. Demonstrates ability to work with vulnerable populations in volunteer settings is an asset.  Medical Office Assistant Certificate.  2 years of experience.  An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.

  • Responds with empathy and compassion to those struggling with emotional concerns and helps to defuse individuals in distress, and deescalates disgruntled situations.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients/clients and HCS staff by adhering to established safety practices regarding blood, bodily fluids, sharps, infection control, etc.
  • Conducts and documents clinical procedures requested by doctors (urinalysis, urine pregnancy testing, ECGs, vital signs, and dressing changes). 
  • Maintains the confidentiality of patient/client information, and ensures security of all their documents. Follows relevant regulations and guidelines such as MSP, CPSBC, SFU/HCS policies, and the FOIPPA when processing, handling, storing, and archiving patient/client health information.
  • A strong understanding of medical terminology, sterilization and disinfecting procedures, and EMR experience with attention to details and accuracy.
