Labourer 1 – Horticulture

Duration: Temporary Full Time

Salary: $32.91 per hour + benefits (2024 Rates)

Schedule: 80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM

This is an exciting opportunity to begin your municipal career! Our Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is looking for seasonal Labourers to work in the Horticulture division on a temporary full-time basis from March 2025 to November 2025. This opportunity offers full-time hours with the possibility of re-call in the following year.  Duties and responsibilities of Labourers working in the Horticulture division include, but are not restricted to:

  •          Planting bulbs, annuals, and shrubs
  •          Weeding garden beds
  •          Pruning
  •          Grass cutting
  •          Grass edging
  •          Performing related duties as required

Qualifications include up to high school graduation; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The position requires knowledge and skill in the methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in horticulture maintenance work. Related education is an asset, landscaping and horticulture landscape experience, as well as hands-on experience with related tools and equipment is required. This position involves continuous heavy physical work in all weather conditions. The ability to maintain a very high standard of work is critical for success in this role. Other desired attributes include excellent teamwork skills and the ability to communicate effectively, particularly when dealing with the public. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.

Pay Rate: $32.91 per hour + benefits (2024 Rates)

Location: Parks Nursery

Schedule: 80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
