This position works in the Engineering – Administration organizational unit. This is varied and moderately difficult clerical work in the performance of a variety of office tasks requiring a good functional knowledge of departmental procedures and policies. The Clerk 3 is responsible for the effective performance of diverse clerical duties. An incumbent of this class; posts, maintains, reconciles and balances records not requiring special accounting techniques but requiring some procedural determinations. Uses application software to import and format documents; creates links and other user aides; prepares, processes and circulates materials; composes correspondence; assists persons seeking information and explains and interprets departmental policies, rules and regulations. A Clerk 3 makes moderately complex computations for claims and adjustments, assessments, permits and other charges, which may involve a variety of regulations; maintains a variety of records of departmental activities; and reviews forms for accuracy, completeness, propriety of charges and conformance with departmental regulations. The Clerk 3 will also provide clerical coverage to Engineering divisions as and when needed. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 preferably including or supplemented by courses in commercial subjects and bookkeeping and considerable related experience as a Clerk 2; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the rules and regulations and operational needs which govern activities in the Engineering department; sound knowledge of modern business office practices and procedures including the use of various application software packages such as Energov, SAP, Burnaby Maps, MS Excel. An incumbent will have the ability to meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public and to maintain harmonious working relationships with office staff. A Clerk 3 will also have skill in operating common office appliances.
