Do you enjoy working with the public as a role model in a fun and friendly manner? Are you passionate about water safety and teaching swimming to various age groups? The City of Burnaby is actively recruiting Lifeguard Instructors to join our team.
Duties of an Auxiliary Lifeguard Instructor will include instructing aquatic programs to all ages, water surveillance and public relations, as well as participating in rescues and first aid when required. Other responsibilities include pool maintenance and cleaning duties, completing reports related to daily tasks, and performing other related duties as required.
The following certifications are required and must be current at time of the screening:
1. Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor
2. Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard - Pool
3. Standard First Aid (current within 3 years)
4. BCRPA Aquatic Fitness Leader certification and Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor awards are considered assets.
The wet and dry interview will be on April 19, 2026, and participation is required to be considered. Once your application is received an invite will be sent to attend Lifeguard School sessions. Attendance at these sessions is highly recommended to be successful in the wet interview.

Pay Rate: $27.30 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)
$29.25 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2026 Rates)
Location: Various Burnaby Locations
Hours of work: This is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work, which may include on-call shifts. Typical shifts will range between Monday to Friday between the hours of 6:00am to 10:00pm, including weekends and evenings until 9:00pm.
