Job Title: Elections Supervisor
Salary: $71,526 - $83,694 (2026)
Reports to: City Clerk
Location: City Hall, Lindsay, ON
Hours of Work: Normal working hours are 37.5 hours per week with core working hours between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Other: General Office environment. May be required to work additional hours if volume and scope requires, including evenings and weekends.
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the City Clerk, this position the Municipal Election Supervisor will provide direct supervision and support for the Municipal Election within the City of Kawartha Lakes. The ideal candidate has experience with the Municipal Election process and a good understanding of the Municipal Elections Act and other related Provincial legislation. The 2026 Elections will be conducted through Internet and Telephone Voting.
The Election Supervisor is a key member of the Election Team who is responsible for planning, administration and organization of various aspects of the 2026 Municipal Election
Essential Duties:
Receive and respond to questions from the public with regard to voter registration, the voting process, and other election inquiries, via in-person, telephone and email communication.
Act as Revising Officer for updating and maintaining voters’ list and liaise with Elections Ontario to address voter issues.
Respond to candidate inquiries and process candidate nominations.
Register Third Party Advertisers.
Direct election assistants, organize materials and equipment necessary to implement the election.
Oversee the planning and execution of strategies and programs in support of electoral events, including necessary training and outreach to qualifying long-term care facilities.
Coordinate the Election Help Centres, and any other community outreach locations, as required.
Coordinate with the Accessibility Staff to ensure compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (“AODA”).
Coordinate with Communications Staff to satisfy legislated notice requirements and public information media releases.
Monitor and update election website content, monitor election expenses within budget and other related duties as required.
Primary work location is at City Hall, with some travel within the City of Kawartha Lakes to Election Help Centres.
Qualifications:
Possess a three‐year post‐secondary education or equivalent experience.
Preference will be given to those with a Political Science and/or a Public/Business Administration background or the equivalent demonstrated work experience.
Demonstrated strong project management, time management, organizational and planning skills, ability to prioritize work and to work in a fast‐paced, high pressure environment with competing priorities.
Demonstrated tact, diplomacy and good judgment in dealing with the public, candidates and elected officials and/or their agents.
Demonstrated experience in assisting with the Municipal Election process for at least one election cycle.
Possess thorough knowledge and application of the Municipal Elections Act and applicable sections of the Municipal Act.
Excellent public relations, customer service and communications skills to be able to effectively resolve public inquiries and ability to deal effectively and tactfully with all levels of staff and government, elected officials, local boards and commissions, community groups and the general public.
Must have the ability to work independently as well as an active team member with demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills, creativity and problem solving skills.
Experience working with computer applications including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Successful applicants will be using VoterView and other election related technology.
Possess a valid Class 'G' driver's license in good standing during the course of employment, or the ability to attend work related activities at various sites within the municipalities.
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills are essential as well as experience in conducting training sessions and/or presentations.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
Upon a conditional offer of employment, an acceptable Criminal Record Check will be required.
