If you answered yes, our Chalk River location is looking for an Electrical Engineer to provide integrated project management, engineering, design and construction services for nuclear and non-nuclear facilities, and R&D experiments at the Chalk River Site.  Can you see yourself contribute to the development of conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs of electrical power systems? What will you be doing!

  • Being assigned as a design job leader including job management and execution oversight.
  • Providing job updates and status reports to management.
  • Guiding the work of several professional engineers and technologists, coordinating schedules and assigning tasks to reach an overall objective within cost, quality and time requirements.
  • Providing mentorship and technical oversight to junior staff.
  • Designing of retrofits and modifications to existing electrical engineering systems.
  • Designing of electrical distribution systems, medium and low voltage (Class 1 through Class IV) power supply systems, alarm systems, lighting systems etc.
  • Specifying of technical components for electrical systems.
  • Performing electrical power studies (e.g. load flow, short circuit, coordination and arc flash) using power studies software (preferably ETAP).
  • Preparing of design documentation including concept reports, design requirements, design descriptions, design manuals, design guides, technical specifications, and technical notes.
  • Engineering support during the construction, installation and commissioning project phases.
  • Customer liaison.
  • Providing subject matter expert review and acceptance of designs prepared by outside agencies.
  • Providing the Design Authority oversight for Electrical engineering projects at the Chalk River site.
  • Developing engineering specifications and standards facilitating a consistent design approach.  
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Bachelor (Honours) degree in electrical engineering from a university of recognized standing with more than eight (8) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience
    • Member of a provincial professional engineering association.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering codes and standards used in the design, construction, and commissioning of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment in technical matters, to routinely solve technical problems and to make independent decisions.
    • Demonstrated performance in providing engineering oversight to various sizes of jobs.
    • Excellent oral and written English communication skills; previous experience making technical presentations to small and large audiences.
    • Experienced in the technical procurement process, including supplier qualification reviews, bid evaluations, review and acceptance of technical deliverables and monitoring contractor performance vs. technical specifications.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of CSA N286/N285 quality standards.
    • Demonstrated effective team leadership and team-building skills.
    • Experienced in performing electrical power studies using software such as ETAP.
    • Experienced in the maintenance of electrical systems or equipment.
    • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and interact with staff at various levels of the organization. 
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required  
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
