What will you be doing! 

  • Ensuring accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc financial reports and analysis for CNL Management, AECL, the Board of Directors, the Shareholder and others as required. 
  • Providing briefing material (commentary and analysis) for the Controller, CFO and Audit Committee of CNL’s Board of Directors.
  • Acting as the primary interface with auditors, maintaining CNL's relationships with external auditors, internal auditors, and other professional advisory bodies regarding accounting and external reporting. 
  • Maintaining CNL’s internal control framework and ensuring consistent application of related policies and procedures.  Communicating changes to policies and procedures. 
  • Overseeing the monthly and annual financial close process. Assessing new accounting and reporting standards (IFRS and PSAS) and providing interpretations for implementation; planning for required changes and leading delivery to meet prescribed internal and external deadlines.
  • Accountable for corporate accounting functions and integrity of core financial systems for CNL; and leading required changes or enhancements.
  • Liaising with corporate planning, and all business divisions to provide direction and/or assistance with respect to complex accounting and reporting issues.
  • Implementing policies to ensure financial compliance with the governing contracts for SOC and TCA’s and provide training and communication as required.
  • Performing other duties or projects as needed.

 

What we are looking for: 

  • This position requires a Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA) and a University Degree in Commerce or Business Administration.
  • Minimum of seven to ten years of related financial and accounting experience
  • Management level experience in leading a finance function. 
  • Demonstrated capabilities in providing financial direction and guidance to a multi-product line organization at a comparable level to Manager or Controller, dependent on industry or organization size.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing demands or circumstances and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to guide, mentor and develop staff to enhance group performance through goal setting, feedback, and learning.
  • Ability to analyze and recommend accounting treatment for complex transactions and communicate information in briefing notes for Executive level review.
  • Ability to review and assess financial results for timely reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
  • In depth knowledge and experience with financial systems and tools in a multi-layered application environment.
  • Requires experience in preparation of documentation for audit purposes.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting standards in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and International Sustainability
  • Standards (ISSB)/relevant Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Oracle, Cognos, and Power BI reporting tools.

Security clearance eligibility required: Level 2 Secret which has a minimum requirement of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security”.

Location:  

This role is based out of CNL’s Chalk River site, however the primary work location will be remote. Although this role is considered to be fully remote, presence at the Chalk River site may be needed on occasion and will be determined by the manager, based on internal client and project needs. CNL may require travel from time to time, as necessary.
