We're looking for an HVAC Engineer to help provide design services for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning projects which are assigned to the D&ER Engineering Group. Does the idea of being a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to advise and support design involving mechanical HVAC engineering activities during the planning, design, execution and close out stages of a wide range of decommissioning work in the (4) D&ER sites appeal to you? What you will be doing!
- Providing mentoring, coaching and support to support the HVAC and Mechanical Engineering staff.
- Fostering communication, escalation and prompt resolution of issues, specifically connected with engineering delivery and performance of the team.
- Promoting strong communication and teamwork among the HVAC and Mechanical Engineering staff.
- Promoting respectful and positive work environment, motivating high performance.
- Working with group members, Manager and other applicable resources of the Organization to ensure proper mentoring, career progression and skills are developed in the group.
- Supporting the department with recommending leave requests by staff, work balance (manage staff regular and overtime).
- Participating in the hiring process as recommended by management.
- Providing the necessary expert engineering advice and recommendations to the Engineering Manager for decision and guidance.
- Evaluating existing Mechanical designs to accommodate retrofits, modifications and improvements.
- Contributing to the development of conceptual, preliminary and detailed design of Mechanical Systems.
- Preparing design documents, design requirements, design descriptions, technical specifications, tendering documents, standards, procedures and analyses reports.12. Review and/or recommend technical specification for Mechanical Equipment, tests, and processes/procedures.
- Providing engineering support during the construction, installation and commissioning project phases.
- Providing subject matter expert review and acceptance of designs prepared by outside agencies.
- Supervising technical staff and/or Junior Staff.
- Liaising with external contractors.
- Developing engineering specifications and standards facilitating a consistent design approach.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Bachelor (Honours) degree in Mechanical, Nuclear or related Engineering discipline from a university of recognized standing; or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
- Experience
- Sound knowledge of Mechanical Engineering and more than eight (8) years of significant related experience in various aspects of the HVAC practice area, particularly in the areas of heating, ventilation and air filtration.
- Experienced in the technical procurement process, including supplier qualification reviews, bid evaluations, review and acceptance of technical deliverables; and monitoring contractor performance vs. technical specifications.
- Demonstrated performance in providing engineering oversight to various sizes of projects.
- Supervisory and project management experience would be an asset.
- Familiarity with the analysis and design of conventional pressure boundary systems. Including familiarity with CSA B51, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and ASME B31 piping codes.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in technical matters, to routinely solve technical problems and to make independent decisions.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills; previous experience making technical presentations to small and large audiences.
- Demonstrated effective team leadership and team-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and interact with staff at various levels of the organization.
- Sound knowledge of HVAC and nuclear ventilation systems.
- Sound knowledge of relevant codes and standards used in the design, construction, and commissioning and decommissioning of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities
- Knowledge of Design Engineering practices, organization and quality assurance processes, Engineering Change Control and Configuration Management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Nuclear quality standards.
- Knowledge of radiation protection (RP) standards and RP practices
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Level 2 Secret which has a minimum requirement of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom .
