The Opportunity:
Reporting to the CEO/Executive Director, you will work in collaboration with all functional areas of the Galt organization to promote a positive, engaging image of the museum and Fort Whoop-Up. As our successful candidate, you will have overall responsibility for assuring that facility rentals, Galt Museum and Fort stores, visitor services and the museum environment delivers optimal service to staff, guests, and community stakeholders. This position also assists the finance team and CEO/Executive Director with financial oversight, ensuring financial functions are performed effectively and in alignment with City policy. This position also performs in an acting capacity for the CEO/Executive Director, during periods of absence.
People and Process Responsibilities:
Your successful people skills will be the foundation for your recruitment, training, and supervisory responsibilities, as well as for fostering teamwork, providing feedback, mentorship, and successfully resolving issues when they arise. In addition to this, you will also have other general HR responsibilities, regarding time/payroll approvals and routine administrative procedures.
Services and Financial Responsibilities:
You’ll use your seasoned business and financial acumen to develop methods and research products that result in increased profits for revenue generation, while also ensuring alignment with the values in our strategic plan. Your analytical skills will be needed to assess profitability by preparing monthly profit and loss statements and statistical reports, and in reviewing rental fees and service standards to ensure they stay competitive in the marketplace. You will also administer our CRM software and collaborate with other City departments to ensure effective customer experience in bookings and sales.
Museum Environment Management:
You’ll use your experienced general management skills to ensure a safe, pleasant and well-maintained environment inside and on the grounds of the museum and fort for our visitors. This will include supervision of our seasonal Grounds Attendant and janitorial services, as well as liaising with other City departments to maintain an aesthetically appealing environment.
Your professional skillset and experience:
A minimum of 5 years’ related experience within a museum or similar public venue setting; related experience within a governmental or university museum or gallery, considered an asset
Strong analytical ability
Successful supervisory and recruitment experience, with basic understanding of supervision within a unionized environment; specific experience managing museum or gallery front-of-house teams, considered an asset
Knowledge of computer systems, and software including CRM software, and accounting applications (as required)
Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Retail management experience, with experience in retail initiatives within a values-based strategic plan
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to communicate well at all levels of the organization and external public
Salary range: $84,493.50 to $105,651; commensurate with experience
