What we’re looking for:

Are you an experienced communications professional with a knack for all things language, technology and design? Are you a whiz at corporate storytelling to showcase an organization’s community impact?

The Lethbridge Public Library is seeking a motivated person to fill a temporary vacancy as our Communications Coordinator. This role will be responsible for creating engaging content, managing our social media and web presence, and developing targeted marketing materials to promote all that we do. You will have a natural ability to build meaningful relationships with Library patrons, staff and media to craft impactful stories that amplify our mission and cultivate engagement.

This is an opportunity for an organized, creative and collaborative individual to put their stamp on marketing Library services to the community.

This is a term appointment that will end upon the return of the incumbent, expected by May 2026.

 

What you need to bring to this position: 

  • University degree, preferably in communications, marketing, or a related area. In some circumstances, an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and two or more years of relevant library experience may be considered by the hiring manager.

  • Proven ability to write professionally and construct press releases, articles, and other written communication materials.

  • Proven skills in editing, proofreading, researching, compiling and summarizing information and key messages.

  • Proven web and social media skills, including a working knowledge of Hootsuite.

  • Aptitude and knowledge of graphic design and layout using Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva. Photography skills are an asset.

  • Ongoing knowledge of current events, local issues, and trends in media, marketing and communication.

  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment, generate enthusiasm, and cultivate commitment to projects and ongoing initiatives.

  • Ability to maintain and build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated decision-making skills and the ability to exercise good judgment in the best interests of Lethbridge Public Library at all times.

  • Demonstrated commitment to learn and develop professionally.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, multi-tasking, and time management skills.

  • Library experience preferred.

 

Your average day at LPL includes:

  • Participating in the development and implementation of marketing plans, communication strategies, and brand guidelines.

  • Developing and coordinating content for the Library’s website, social media accounts, digital displays and publications.

  • Producing and distributing Library promotional material and reports using Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva.

  • Maintaining organizational social media accounts, including content creation, monitoring, updating, posting and responding on all channels.

  • Supporting the day-to-day operations of the website and digital displays via the content management system, Mugo.

  • Collaborating with stakeholders across the Library to ensure communications reflect Library priorities, services, and plans.

  • Providing training, advice, and guidance to content creators and contributors for web, digital, and print materials within the Library.

  • Providing media support and training for staff, as required.

  • Engaging with teams and departments within the Library to provide communications support for Library projects and initiatives.

  • Attending programs and events to promote Library activities.

  • Participating on relevant committees, teams and projects as required.

 

Hours of work and location:

  • 75 hours bi-weekly, Monday to Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

  • Working at the Main Branch, and reporting to the Manager: Strategic Communications

 

Salary Range:

$32.19 to $35.68 hourly as per C.U.P.E. Local 70 (Library Employees) Collective Agreement (Under Review)

 

Note:

This is a term appointment and will terminate upon the return of the incumbent from parental leave, expected by May 2026.

The successful candidate must complete a Police Information Check before the start date.
