Intermediate Architect

The Design and Construction Branch is looking for an Intermediate Architect for a temporary position until March 31, 2028, with the possibility of extension and/or indeterminate status. The position is classified as a RÉ-05 ($75,576 to $100,274 per annum)

JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Senior Architect, you will work with the Senior Architect and Project Managers to plan and prepare work plans, studies, designs and tender documents for capital projects of the Multi-Year Capital Program (MYCP) and other major Architecture projects. 
You will conduct technical research and give advice to external partners and internal employees within the centre of expertise. You will also participate participate in division and section meetings and working committees.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
A degree in Architecture from a recognized post secondary institution, or the equivalent as established by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board, if obtained outside Canada.

LICENCE
Must be licensed or eligible to become a member of l’Ordre des Architectes du Québec (OAQ) or Ontario Association of Architects (OAA).

EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 3 years of experience holding progressively significant responsibilities in Architecture and in the following areas;
•    Developing diverse set of concepts and design options for implementation of Architectural projects.
•    Using various 2D and 3D design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and SketchUp.
•    Preparing tender ready technical drawings, specifications and design guidelines/briefs.

KNOWLEDGE
•    Of the National Building Code, standards, and practices. 
•    Of the principles of universal accessibility and heritage conservation.

ABILITIES
•    To work on multiple projects simultaneously with minimum supervision.
•    To provide advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.  
•    To ensure quality assurance in compliance with quality work standards.
•    To communicate effectively both orally and in writing in both official languages.

•    Superior proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, BIM and SketchUp. 
•    Experience with construction projects for heritage buildings.  

WORKING CONDITIONS
•    Visit to construction project sites where protective equipment such as hard hats and safety shoes may be required. 
•    May involve standing, walking, and navigating various work terrains.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT    
•    Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance.
•    Linguistic profile: Bilingual BBB.
•    Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 40 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ontario.
•    The National Capital Commission offers a hybrid and flexible work environment, all employees are currently asked to work on-site at least two (2) days per week.
