Landscape Architect

The Design and Construction Branch is looking for 2 Landscape Architects for temporary positions until March 31, 2028, and September 8, 2025, both with the possibility of extension and/or indeterminate status.

The positions are classified as a RÉ-05 ($75,576 to $100,274 per annum). 

A pool of qualified people will be created and may be used to staff similar temporary or indeterminate positions.  

JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Senior Landscape Architect, you will plan and execute designs, layouts, plans, details and specifications for various Landscape Architectural projects. You will work on development and improvement projects in line with functional, safety, economical, aesthetic and other established standards. You will provide technical support to the Senior Architect, and other internal and external partners in the delivery of the Multi Year Capital Plan and other programs.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Landscape Architecture.

EXPERIENCE
A minimum of three years of experience in the following areas;
•    Developing concepts and design options in Landscape Architecture.
•    Using various 2D and 3D design software such as AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, 3D Max, Rhino, Lumion and SketchUp.
•    Preparing technical drawings, specifications and design briefs.
•    Planning and overseeing contractual agreements involving general contractors and consultants. 

KNOWLEDGE
•    Of project programming, analysis, costing and scheduling.
•    Of sustainable design principles, methods, and practices.  

ABILITIES
•    To work on multiple projects within a multidisciplinary team with minimum supervision. 
•    To review plans, specifications, and other documents for compliance with best practices.
•    To prepare project documentation and reports.
•    To negotiate and resolve disputes with internal and external parties.
•    To communicate effectively orally and in writing.

COMPETENCIES

ASSETS 
•    Membership with the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (OALA) or the Association des architectes paysagistes du Québec (AAPQ).
•    Experience with construction projects for sensitive cultural landscapes.    
•    Knowledge of disciplines related to land development such as urban design and planning. 

WORKING CONDITIONS
•    Involves visits to project sites where protective equipment such as hard hats, vest, glasses, gloves and safety shoes are required. 
•    Involves site visits outdoors and exposure to various weather conditions, dirt, dust, and hazards.
•    Involves standing, walking, and navigating various work terrains.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT    
•    Possess or eligible to obtain Reliability clearance.
•    Linguistic profile: Unilingual English or French or Bilingual BBB.
•    Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 40 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ontario.
•    The National Capital Commission offers a hybrid and flexible work environment, all employees are currently asked to work on-site at least two (2) days per week.
