Senior General Accounting Officer

The Corporate Branch is looking for a Senior General Accounting Officer for a temporary position from February 17, 2025, to February 13, 2026, with the possibility of extension and/or indeterminate status.

The position is classified as a RÉ-05 ($75,576 to $100,274 per annum). 

A list of qualified people will be compiled and may be used for additional temporary or indeterminate positions.

JOB OVERVIEW
As a Senior General Accounting Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the accounting ledgers, with a primary focus on the general ledger and the capital assets subsidiary ledger. You will work closely with the Manager, General Accounting, to reconcile ledgers and related accounts and you will participate in the preparation of various financial reports, the NCC's financial statements as well as the year end audit.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
A degree from a recognized university with a specialization in Accounting, Finance or in a related field to the position. 

EXPERIENCE
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in the following areas:
•    Maintenance of accounting ledgers and preparation of reconciliations including journal entries.
•    Preparation of financial reports including financial statements and related note disclosures.
•    Preparation of supporting documentation for the year-end audit of financial statements. 

KNOWLEDGE
•    Of use of software tools, specifically electronic spreadsheets and financial systems.
•    Of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practices.

ASSETS
•    Hold or be working towards obtaining a professional accounting designation (CPA).
•    Knowledge of accounting processes and practices of the public sector.
•    Knowledge of internal controls relating to financial and accounting operations.
•    Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX financial software.   

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT    
•    Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance.
•    Linguistic profile: Bilingual BBB.
•    Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 40 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ontario.
