Real Estate Officer

The Real Estate and Development Branch is looking for a Real Estate Officer for a temporary position until December 2027. The position is classified as RÉ-05 ($77,281 to $102,535 per annum).

JOB OVERVIEW

  • The Real Estate Officer provides support to the Real Estate Advisors and Chief in the areas of real estate transactions and development. 
  • With oversight and guidance, the incumbent negotiates agreements and completes recommendations for approval. 
  • The Real Estate Officer monitors the fulfillment of transactions, renewal of easements and development agreements. 
  • The incumbent also provides assistance to ensure timely delivery of high-quality work.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

EXPERIENCE

Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in providing professional services in Real Estate Transactions including:

  • Assisting in the development of negotiations strategies, research, risk analysis, and recommendations to executive management for the pursuit and conclusion of real estate transactions.
  • Negotiating or assisting in negotiations and coordinating property transactions.
  • Delivering or assisting in the delivery of property transactions projects pertaining to acquisitions or exchanges or disposals or licenses or leases and easements.
  • Participating in negotiations for the granting of easement from planning stage to the creation, registration, renewals and extinguishment of the easement.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Of the various types of legal instruments for real estate transactions.
  • Of property disposal methodologies.
  • Of guiding principles of appraisal of real property interests.
  • Of the steps required to complete disposals, acquisitions or land exchanges.

ABILITIES

  • To collaborate with internal and external parties to determine issues, identify solutions, make recommendations and implement the approved response.
  • To work effectively within a team environment as well as individually and meet tight deadlines despite continually changing priorities.
  • To ensure quality assurance in compliance with quality work standards.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily working in a controlled office environment with little exposure to unpleasant conditions.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 

  • Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance.
  • Linguistic profile: English or French.
  • Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 40 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ontario.
