About the Role
The Director, Global Engagement provides strategic leadership to SFU’s engagement in the Asia, Americas and the South Pacific region. A dynamic and entrepreneurial self-starter, the Director works with internal and external stakeholders to develop impactful partnerships, programs, and initiatives that advance the university’s global priorities. The role includes a strong focus on business development, identifying and cultivating new opportunities for collaboration, funding, and innovation that align with institutional goals. The Director also provides guidance, leadership, and mentorship to staff and campus partners in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies to enhance the visibility and impact of global engagement programs locally, nationally, and internationally.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strategic leadership, cross-cultural competence, and exceptional relationship-building skills, with a focus on engagement in the Asia, Americas and the South Pacific regions. They will bring a strong track record in partnership and business development, with the ability to identify and cultivate new opportunities that advance institutional goals. Skilled in guiding and mentoring staff and advising campus partners, the candidate will also be adept at driving innovative and high-impact global initiatives. Excellent communication and analytical abilities are essential, enabling persuasive idea-sharing, effective stakeholder engagement, and data-informed decision-making.
Qualifications
Master's degree in International Relations, Arts, Business Administration, or Education, or a related field, and five years of related experience in areas such as analysis and planning; program, project or event management; and community outreach and engagement, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Excellent persuasion, influencing and public speaking skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders through effective presentations.
- Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and intercultural skills.
- Experience in international relations or other related areas.
- Ability to develop relationships and partnerships and to work collaboratively at all levels and areas within and outside of the organization.
- Ability to provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to others.
