Job Summary 

 

We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to join the Data Management Office (DMO) in our Technology & Project Services division taking on the role as “Data Ambassador”. As a Data Ambassador, you are responsible for managing the quality, integrity, and governance of data in Platform and Nucleus, and other BCSC regulatory systems, to support regulatory compliance and enable effective decision-making within our organizationThis position reports directly to the Manager, Enterprise Architecture and Regulatory Systems.  

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

  • Data Governance and Quality Management: 

    • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures.  

    • Under the guidance of the DMO, responsible for the overall management of the Purview tool (e.g. maintaining data lineage, managing sensitivity labels, managing PII, data dictionary)  

    • Monitor the quality and accuracy of financial data across various systems and platforms. 

    • Identify and address data discrepancies, anomalies, and errors to maintain data integrity.  

 

  • Data Classification and Metadata Management 

    • Classify and categorize financial data based on its relevance, sensitivity, and regulatory requirements.  

    • Manage metadata to enhance data discoverability and lineage documentation. 

 

  • Regulatory Compliance:  

    • Stay abreast of provincial regulations and guidelines governing financial markets data (e.g., securities regulations, market conduct rules).  

    • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements and data privacy standards.  

    • Manage processes to correct personal information when requested under FIPPA. This would be done in collaboration with the BCSC privacy officer. 

 

  • Data Security, Privacy and Lifecycle Management:   

    • Work with the TAPS security and Records teams to ensure security and records classifications are correctly applied to data, and work with the privacy officer to identify and appropriately manage personal information within our enterprise data. 

    • Oversee the lifecycle of financial data from acquisition to archival.  

    • Define data retention policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory retention requirements. 

 

  • Data Documentation and Reporting 

    • Generate reports and metrics to track data quality, compliance, and performance.  

    • Draft and publish ongoing information to staff on “good practices and behaviors” 

 

 

  • Stakeholder Collaboration:  

    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including risk management, compliance, and analytics teams, to understand data requirements and facilitate data-driven decision-making.  

    • Meet with the data subject matter experts on a regular basis to provide overall direction on data work and to ensure standards and processes are being followed.  

    • Participate on the Data Governance Committee. 

  • Continuous Improvement:  

    • Identify opportunities for process optimization and automation in data management practices.  

    • Implement tools and technologies to enhance data quality, efficiency, and governance. 

 

 

Qualifications:  

 

  • A bachelor's degree in statistics, computer science, or a closely related field and 3+ years of relevant experience required in a data management, data governance, or a related role, preferably in a regulatory environment or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. 

  • Familiarity with provincial regulations and guidelines governing regulatory markets data (e.g., securities regulations, market conduct rules). 

  • Proficiency in data management tools and technologies. Experience with Microsoft Purview, both the data management and compliance manager functionality considered an asset. 

  • Strong understanding of financial markets stakeholders (e.g. issuers, insiders, registrants etc.) considered an asset. 

  • Familiarity with SQL, data modeling, and metadata management platforms considered an asset. 

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. 

  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to maintaining data integrity and regulatory compliance.

Salary range:  

 

The salary range for this position is $63,721(minimum) - $79,654 (midpoint) - $95,584 (maximum). 

 

The starting salary for this position will be determined considering the successful candidate’s relevant experience and education, salaries of other employees in the same salary range, market conditions and other relevant factors. Starting salaries are normally below the salary band midpoint.
