We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Audit and Risk Management

The incumbent provides expert advice and guidance on matters relating to audit and risk management at the Museum and is responsible for developing and implementing policy instruments, processes, and tools to support these functions. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating internal and external audits and supervises auditors hired on contract to undertake audits. The incumbent also leads the Museum’s risk management process, including developing a corporate-wide risk management framework to identify, assess and monitor activities from a risk perspective, and is responsible for developing processes and tools to integrate risk information into corporate planning and decision-making. The Senior Advisor, Audit and Risk Management contributes to the creation of a strong culture of risk management at all levels of the organization.

Five (5) years of relevant experience:

  • Leading risk management activities including identifying, assessing, evaluating, and reporting on risks;
  • Developing strategies to mitigate risks for a project or an activity;
  • Planning, coordinating and communicating the results of internal program evaluations, policy reviews and/or audits;
  • Developing action plans to address findings from an internal program evaluation, policy review, and/or audit and reporting on progress;
  • Developing and delivering presentations/briefings and producing comprehensive reports;
  • Developing and implementing corporate policy instruments, such as an Audit Policy or a Risk Management Policy;
  • Managing large, complex projects that involve multiple stakeholders;
  • Managing external contractors (an asset);
  • Developing and delivering training (an asset).

Knowledge of:

  • Risk management.
  • Project management.
  • Program evaluation, policy review and/or audit.
  • Legislation, regulations and standards as they impact Crown Corporations and the Museum (e.g., Museums Act, Financial Administration Act).
  • Mandate, general structure, strategic directions, and objectives of the Canadian Museum of History.
  • Presentation and communication techniques to be used in conveying information to a variety of audiences within and outside the Museum.
  • Knowledge of museums and cultural heritage institutions (an asset). 

Education: University Degree in Social Sciences, Public or Business Administration, or a field relevant to the position, or an acceptable combination of education and experience. Relevant professional designations or certifications, such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certification in Risk Management, Certification in Project Management, or Certification in Program Evaluation would be considered an asset.

Compensation: NU5 - $82,351 to $ 112,808
