What You'll be Doing:

  • Respond to long grass/weeds complaints on private property and the adjacent boulevard.
  • Inspection of private, residential, commercial, industrial, and vacant land properties to identify contravention of City’s long grass and weeds by-law through collection and recording of evidence (e.g. documents, pictures, statements, interviews, observations, etc.)
  • Advise of identified contraventions and requirements for compliance.
  • Address and remedy contraventions as appropriate (e.g. serving orders, administrative penalty, or City Contractor etc.) including follow-up to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain all documents in accordance with corporate policies and procedures, relevant Acts and applicable legislation.

What's Required:

  • Current enrolment in and planning to return in September to a post-secondary program in Municipal Law Enforcement, Police Foundations, Law & Security, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Public Policy, Law, or other related discipline.
  • Proficiency utilizing computer software including MS Office Suite.
  • Sound conflict resolution skills with the ability to effectively and tactfully deal with the public.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • CSA approved work boots are required.
  • Valid Class ‘G’ driver’s licence, a reliable vehicle, and clean driving record. (will receive mileage for using personal vehicle).

Hours: 35 per week
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM                   
Location: St. Catharines, ON
Work Mode: Hybrid (less than 50% remote)   
Employee Group: Student 
Position Type: Temporary, Full-time
Duration: 18 weeks (approx. May to August)

Candidates selected for the position will be required to complete the Ministry of Labour’s Worker Health and Safety Awareness training and provide proof of the educational credentials listed on their resume and job application.
