In this role, you will :

  • Lead the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of emergency management programs, projects and systems, ensuring alignment with the strategic vision.
  • Represent the organization in public including but not limited to media outlets, public speaking engagements and government relations.
  • Evaluate and update emergency response plans to address emerging threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with stakeholders, including government agencies and local communities, to ensure effective coordination, collaboration, and support for emergency management program activities.
  • Implement policies and procedures related to emergency preparedness, response, risk and recovery.
  • Monitor and evaluate department/program impact and effectiveness including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Define strategy, objectives, resources and budget to achieve short to mid term priorities.
  • Contribute to operational budget, risk management and workforce planning.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to managers on people management processes.
  • Support emergency response and preparedness efforts, including providing technical expertise, coordinating program activities, and contributing to rapid assessments and decision-making.

     

What we are looking for :

  • A university degree and/or post graduate diploma/degree in a related field and 5+ years of job-related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in building community partnerships and working with volunteer committees.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite) and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to apply emergency management concepts, including program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, and familiarity with humanitarian principles, standards, and best practices.
  • Senior leadership and management experience, with the ability to provide strategic vision, drive innovation, and inspire and motivate teams to achieve program objectives.
  • Ability to develop and manage program budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure financial accountability.
  • Ability to problem solve by using collaboration, teamwork and innovation to solve complex problems. 
  • Requires considerable independent judgement with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data for program decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate, negotiate and influence a variety of internal and external clients.
  • Understands and applies relevant employment legislation, regulation, policies, best practices and trends.

      

Working conditions :

  • The majority of work is performed in an environment which is mostly clean and comfortable.
  • Travel throughout Atlantic Canada required and may require travel within Canada.
  • In a large-scale emergency, where staff numbers are compromised or additional resources are required, you may provide disaster relief and/or emergency field operational support.
  • Occasional overtime, evening or weekend work to meet deadlines, support meetings/events or to meet operational needs.
