Title: Community Engagement Coordinator   

Employee Working Location: Partially Virtual / Hybrid (Yellowknife, NWT)

Employment Status: Temporary Full-time (5 Months)

In this role, you will:  

Responsibility 1: Project Administration

  • Provides collaborative management support for planning and delivering programs that support communities, with an emphasis on Emergency Management, Community Health & Wellness, and Risk Reduction & Resilience.
  • Participate in planning meetings and discussions regarding program delivery, quality assurance, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Oversees internal and external monitoring and reporting obligations, including file management related to Emergency Management, Community Health & Wellness, and Risk Reduction & Resilience deliverables, and compiles and analyzes program statistics and results.

Responsibility 2: Relationship Building

  • Developing relationships and collaborating with local like-minded organizations to address identified needs of communities in the respective area related to Red Cross programs and service provisions.
  • Building strong and effective working relationships with Northwest Territories communities and their governance structures within the framework of community engagement strategies.
  • Facilitating community partnerships to support CRC activities related to resilience building, with a focus on Emergency Management, Community Health & Wellness, and Risk Reduction & Resilience, and recognizing, respecting, and responding to the full diversity of the communities within the designated area.
  • In collaboration with community, identify areas for program growth, fundraising and ongoing sustainability.

Responsibility 3: Community Building & Engagement

  • Coordinates in collaboration with respective service lines planning meetings with the community to support assessment of community assets and resources, identify potential gaps, and provide recommendations internally on opportunities for CRC business development.
  • Host community network meetings and create opportunities for participating communities to share resources, enhance community plans, develop emergency response, and evacuation plans.
  • Recruits, trains, and mentors’ volunteers throughout Northwest Territories to support program delivery of Emergency Management, Risk Reduction & Resilience, and Community Health & Wellness.

Responsibility 4: Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement

  • Creates comprehensive workforce plan to align the volunteer workforce with the needs and priorities of the CRC across Northwest Territories.
  •  In collaboration with respective programs supports in planning, recruiting, processing, and training of volunteers in the designated area as required.
  • Ensure effective communication between volunteers and CRC staff to provide cohesive service delivery.

  

What we are looking for:  

  • The minimum qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Community Development, Emergency Management, Community Health, Indigenous Studies, or a related field, or 3-4 years of similar work experience, along with training in community outreach or engagement.
  • The successful candidate must reside within the Northwest Territories.
  • Proven experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Experience in community outreach, program development, and implementation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Cultural competency and sensitivity to Indigenous traditions and practices.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with community members and organizations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of local, and federal resources available to Indigenous communities.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in various community settings.
  • Valid full/unrestricted driver license is required
  • Proficiency in a primary Indigenous language spoken in the region is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required and French is an asset.
  • Previous experience with CRC is advantageous.
  • Specialized training in emergency management, community health, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, or harm reduction.

  

Working Conditions:   

  • Work will be performed in a home office environment and in-person community engagement environment.
  • Work-related travel is a requirement of the job, including travel into remote communities during all seasons.
  • May be required to work non-traditional hours.
  • Ability to travel locally for events and activities.

The official languages recognized within the Canadian Red Cross are English and French however demonstrated skills and ability to communicate in an or multiple Indigenous language(s) or ability to communicate and adapt within Indigenous protocol is highly desirable.
