POSITION OVERVIEW

 Working in close collaboration with and reporting to the General Manager, the Health & Safety and Environment Coordinator provides support to Plant management to ensure and maintain the health and physical integrity of all employees. More specifically, he/she conducts the analysis of health and safety risks to drive actions that need to be implemented to control risks or eliminate them at the source. In addition to ensuring the Plant's regulatory compliance, he/she will be responsible for building, promoting and deploying a culture change program based on due diligence, with the objective of optimizing the application of safety practices by team members.

 RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Develop and implement a health and safety management system that includes an audit cycle for all mechanisms identified in the management system.
  •  Provide guidance to management in the development and monitoring of the annual preventive action plan.
  •  Ensure legal compliance in health and safety and the environment, for example in terms of lockout procedures, confined spaces, machine safety, risk analysis, response brigade, contractors, and other areas as needed.
  •  Maintain and improve prevention and emergency health and safety plans, as well as policies and procedures.
  • Act as a resource person for managers in the analysis of events (injuries, near-misses, fires), participate in defining corrective actions to be deployed, and implement tools to follow up on corrective actions identified during accident investigations.
  • Actively participate in the Health and Safety Committee.
  • Implement performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the impact of the preventive and corrective actions.
  • Assess the rigor of the application of prevention mechanisms and propose corrective actions to the management team.
  •  Intervene when right to refuse is invoked.
  • Any other tasks requested by the manager.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Ability to influence and communicate with people at all levels of the organization.
  •        Leadership and ability to impose and manage interventions on the work floor.
  • Ability to solve problems and propose solutions.
  •  Organized and rigorous.
  •  Ability to work in a team and customer oriented.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Certificate in occupational health and safety or occupational hygiene.

 EXPERIENCE

  • 7 to 10 years of experience in an industrial environment, in a similar position.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience with environmental standards.
  •  Experience in a unionized environment.

LANGUAGES

  • Fluency in French and English.

Knowledge of English is required for this specific position as Kruger deals with partners across North America and the successful candidate will be required to communicate frequently with them. Kruger has taken all reasonable steps to avoid imposing English language requirements, including assessing the actual language needs associated with the duties to be performed, ensuring that the language skills already required of other employees were insufficient for the performance of those duties, and limiting as much as possible the number of positions with duties requiring English language skills.
