OVERVIEW
The Director, Sustainable Development and Stakeholder Relations, supports the Company and defines a strategy to minimize the impact of its activities on the environment. His/her mission is to transform the Company so that it creates value for all stakeholders by making progress on environmental, ethical, social and governance aspects. The incumbent is the main point of contact for communications, community relations, public and government relations, and economic benefits linked to the projects under development.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the development team by coordinating all aspects related to communication, stakeholder relations, and the economic benefits of the various projects, as well as supporting project development efforts such as transactions or mergers and acquisitions (M&A). He/she will also be responsible for raising awareness of sustainability issues among internal stakeholders and for leading the evolution of the ESG program, in conjunction with Kruger’s other divisions.
1. Project Development Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with Project Development Managers on related aspects of project development, including development, permitting, land acquisition, landowner relations, environmental assessment, and community relations, leading to financial closing, construction, and operation of projects.
• Work closely with the project and engineering team throughout the acquisition, development, engineering, and construction phases.
• More specifically, assume the following responsibilities:
o Establish and maintain a strong network within the renewable energy industry.
o Participate in strategic thinking on an ongoing basis.
o Review green energy procurement policies and regulatory frameworks in different jurisdictions.
o Meet with project stakeholders and assess site conditions.
o Identify, communicate, and resolve issues during the project lifecycle, create a communication plan, implement it for the duration of the construction and/or operation of the project and monitor it.
o Support the development team in project development management, design, licensing, and permitting.
o As part of project development or mergers and acquisitions, prepare documentation demonstrating the Company's local economic impact and involvement in the community.
o Manage contracts and coordinate consultants for professional services related to sustainable development.
o Liaise regularly with local community stakeholders.
o Ensure the proper functioning of project monitoring committees.
o Organize public events when necessary.
o Ensure local representation for project landowners.
o Communicate the expectations and requirements of all stakeholders and ensure community and government support for projects.
o Prepare reports and provide required documentation to senior management regarding project opportunities and progress.
o Provide any other necessary follow-up or document preparation, as requested by the Vice-President, Finance and ESG.
2. Responsible for the cohesion, participation, and visibility of Kruger Energy in the various associations and conferences within the renewable energy sector in Canada and Québec.
• Ensure that Kruger Energy's position is consistent and that information flows appropriately.
• Ensure that team members participate in committees that are relevant to Kruger Energy.
• Regularly bring together participants of the associations' committees to exchange information and discuss the committees’ actions.
• Prepare follow-up documents for Kruger Energy.
• Ensure the participation of Kruger Energy team members as speakers at seminars.
3. In accordance with the orientations of Kruger Energy and Kruger Inc., develop an internal sustainable development policy:
• Establish sustainability goals for Kruger Energy.
• Attend training on the issue of corporate sustainability policies.
• Identify areas relating to sustainable development within the Company: environmental, ethical, social, governance, etc.
• Design or identify tools and indicators to assess environmental performance (carbon footprint, life cycle of equipment and products, impact of production, etc.) and corporate social responsibility.
• Define a strategy and an implementation schedule detailing objectives, actions, tools, and resources, in line with the Company's values, other policies and constraints (HR, production, safety, prevention, etc.).
• Adapt and evolve this strategy according to regulatory and normative developments, in conjunction with the corporate team.
• Relay and support the implementation of the sustainable development strategy at all levels of the organization.
• Train management, managers and employees on the theme of sustainable development.
• Monitor the results and performance of the implementation strategy: identification and/or design of indicators and monitoring tools, evolution of objectives according to their relevance.
• Provide reports, updates, and reviews of the sustainability strategy for management and for external regulatory organizations.
REQUIREMENTS
Master's or bachelor's degree with a strong background in the renewable energy sector, with a good knowledge of industry-related associations and governance principles, or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
• 10 to 15 years of professional experience in project development in the renewable energy industry in Canada, preferred.
• Experience in solar, hydro or wind power generation, preferred.

Additional Information
• Mandatory travel.
• Face-to-face work at least two days a week.
LANGUAGES
• Fluent in French and English.
Knowledge of English is required for this specific position as Kruger deals with partners across North America and the successful candidate will be required to communicate frequently with them. Kruger has taken all reasonable steps to avoid imposing English language requirements, including assessing the actual language needs associated with the duties to be performed, ensuring that the language skills already required of other employees were insufficient for the performance of those duties, and limiting as much as possible the number of positions with duties requiring English language skills.
