POSITION REPORTS TO:  Environmental Superintendent – Compliance

ROTATING SHIFT: Yes       No

PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION: 

KGHM core values include Zero Harm which encompasses efforts toward environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance. Incumbent assists Environmental Compliance Superintendent by executing required monitoring, sample collection, and other field activities consistent with company guidelines, permits, and State and/or Federal regulatory requirements through individual and shared efforts. 

Incumbent will receive training to gain certification needed to support environmental compliance (opacity, drinking water, hazardous waste, DOT). Duties require work outdoors in all weather conditions. Role also interacts with regulators and other mine departments and the public as needed.

 JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Follow safe work procedures and best practices.
  • Collect environmental samples and/or data to meet monitoring and/or analysis requirements. (Well sampling, Pit Lake and pond sampling, soil sampling, waste sampling, etc.)
  • Inspect, monitor, and record pertinent compliance requirements as directed. (Weather station data, piezometers, storm-water BMPs, leak detection, etc.)
  • Attend Environmental training as requested. (New Hire training, opacity training, drinking water, hazardous waste, new regulations, etc.)
  • Assist other mine departments in understanding and mitigating environmental issues as needed.  Assist with spills/releases.
  • Utilize existing database to enter appropriate field and laboratory observations; manipulate data as needed to evaluate against permitted criteria. Maintain logbook/records.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports as directed.
  • Participate in mine-wide projects to assist in evaluating environmental impacts.
  • Willingness to perform other duties as necessary to ensure the success of KGHM.

 REQUIRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

  •      Ability and desire to work in the elements and outdoors.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid Driver’s License.

 PREFERRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

  • Three to five (3-5) years of related field experience.
  • Previous mining experience.
  • RCRA Certification.
  • Drinking water certification.

 TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to learn new software.
  • Job may include some heavy lifting and operation of heavy equipment as needed (backhoe, front end loader, and forklift). ***We will train.
  • Ability to back up vehicle with a trailer.
  • Familiarity with pumps and motors (including general maintenance). ***We will train.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks in a safe team-oriented environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Related Environmental certifications a plus. ***Preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

 TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to travel to meetings, and training, which may require an overnight stay, in a company vehicle.

 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • N/A

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Medium: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.  Physical demand requirements are greater than that required for Light Work.
