Reporting to the Senior Manager, Transportation- Transportation Development and Projects, this position performs complex technical field and office work of a civil engineering nature at the sub-professional level. The incumbent facilitates the design of municipal transportation infrastructure by undertaking complex technical assignments including preparation or review of design layouts, road cross-sections, road functional designs, pavement marking and traffic signage plans, specifications and technical data, making field inspections and making computations. In addition, the incumbent is responsible to carry out review of new developments and identify transportation requirements; check transportation designs submitted by consultants for technical adequacy, scope of work, and conformance to Municipal standards and specifications and other relevant transportation industry guidelines; make recommendations for modifications; refine drawings as necessary to ensure completeness, accuracy and conformance to project requirements; liaise with external transportation agencies on matters related to transportation infrastructure; conduct field inspections of work sites; prepare notes and maps as required; prepare reports and diagrams as required; make technical calculations, prepare schedule of quantities, write special conditions for contract documents and selected standard drawings, and performs related work as required.
Qualifications include a diploma in Civil Engineering plus sound related experience, eligibility for registration as an Applied Science Technologist or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Sound knowledge of applicable transportation engineering design principles, standards, and methods; municipal engineering practices, procedures, functions and of the rules and regulations applicable to the Section's functions. Ability to prepare designs for transportation infrastructure and to review drawings for technical accuracy and conformance with municipal standards and related specifications. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
