Job Title                     Transit Driver

Wage                          $23.19 - $25.08 hourly (2024)

Reports To                 Supervisor, Transit

Department               Public Works

Location                     Lindsay

Hours                         Normal Working Hours up to 24 hours per week, includes evenings and weekends.

Other                          General office environment. Some travel throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes may be necessary in accordance with job requirements.

 

Job Description

  • Transport passengers safely according to approved routes and time schedules; operate assigned transit vehicle in a safe manner in all weather conditions
  • Required to drive specialized Transit and LIMO routes
  • Collect proper fares and check the validity of transfers/passes and resolve any passenger disputes
  • Provide excellent customer service so as to promote continued and new ridership
  • Maintain orderliness on the vehicle by dealing with disruptive individuals or groups
  • Advise supervisor when off schedule due to vehicle maintenance issues and/or vehicle or passenger emergencies
  • Responsible for log book update and accurate record keeping
  • Fill out accident and/or other reports as required related to any incidences occurring during the shift
  • Provide assistance to passengers with disabilities and accessibility needs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Skills/Education Required

  • Secondary School diploma 
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience in a similar role within a public transit environment is preferred, but will consider experience with bus driving or commercial driving with demonstrated professional customer service interaction on a daily basis
  • The ability to perform a daily vehicle inspection
  • Knowledge of wheelchair securement system
  • Ability to exercise discretion and tact; socially responsible, with excellent defensive driving skills
  • Possess a customer service driven attitude, excellent time management and organizational skills and a proven ability to communicate effectively both within and outside the organization
  • Must have legible and accurate writing ability
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software
  • Must have current First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “B”, “C” “E” or “F” Driver’s Licence and acceptable driving record
