Hours                         Seasonal Full-Time, 40 hours per week

Other                          Availability for additional hours required, specifically in winter season; Travel throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes in accordance with job requirements, work location may vary

The Roads Division is seeking a motivated team player to assist with winter maintenance.  The successful individual will display their best collaboration and communication skills within their assigned depot, while safely and competently carrying out the duties of the position.

Job Description

  • Operates winter maintenance equipment safely and competently: trackless side-walk plows, pick-up truck/blade, loaders, backhoes
  • Plows, sands/salts and performs snow removal operations on City sidewalks, lots and premises and secondaries
  • General labour and maintenance duties may include, but are not limited to: tree and brush cutting, road and sidewalk sign maintenance, patching operations, guardrail or sidewalk repair; shop maintenance, general vehicle and equipment maintenance;
  • Follow prescribed health and safety procedures including wearing personal protective equipment
  • Accurate daily record keeping
  • Other similar duties as assigned

Skills/Education Required

  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one full winter control season experience, preferably in a municipal environment, safely and competently operating trackless (or similar) side-walk plows, pickup truck/blade, loaders and backhoes
  • Ability to operate small hand tools and equipment (i.e. shovel, chainsaw, weed eater)
  • Ability to read and understand current legislation as it pertains to Hours of Work, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, City policies and operational guidelines
  • Trained and competent in safe work practices and WHMIS
  • Must have accurate and legible writing ability
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team
  • Excellent customer service skills with ability to deal tactfully and politely with the public
  • Knowledge of road and sidewalk repair and maintenance an asset
  • Must possess and maintain and valid Ontario Cass G driver’s licence, with acceptable driving record
  • Upon conditional offer of employment a Criminal Record Check will be required
