To provide operational health physics support to Facilities Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation.  Support functions include the provision of health physics consultative advice to line and facility management, HP technical support and the development and implementing elements of the Radiation Protection Program Compliance Program.‚Äč

Duties:

To provide operational health physics support to assigned facilities, HP consultative advice to line and facility management, HP technical support, developing and implementing elements of the Radiation Protection Program Compliance Program.  Duties may include:

  1. Operational health physics services for assigned facilities and projects:
  2. Development and implementation of RP controls, processes and procedures
  3. Radiological safety and dose assessments
  4. ALARA assessment and reviews
  5. Preparation, review and/or approval of radiological work plans/procedures and radioisotope laboratory protocol
  6. Post-work ALARA reviews
  7. Response and investigation of unplanned event investigations
  8. Radiation safety officer services and management:
  9. Radiation source registration and records
  10. Radiation source leak testing program
  11. Radioactive material handling area permits
  12. Laboratory and non-listed facility compliance inspections
  13. CA lunch and beverage rooms registration and CA food passes
  14. Technical health physics services for instrumentation, filter testing and decommissioning:
  15. Review and approval of the selection and procurement of radiation and contamination measuring and monitoring equipment
  16. Oversight of site processes for the calibration of RP instrumentation
  17. Oversight of the operation of site HEPA/filter testing lab and air effluent counting lab
  18. In-field gamma spectroscopy
  19. Oversight of decommissioning/decontamination methods and techniques
  20. Planning, execution and documentation of scoping, characterization and release radiological surveys
  21. Providing RP program management and oversight:
  22. Performing RP compliance inspections.
  23. Operational health physics services for assigned facilities and projects:
  24. Development and implementation of RP controls, processes and procedures.
  25. Radiological safety and dose assessments.
  26. ALARA assessment and reviews.
  27. Preparation, review and/or approval of radiological work plans/procedures.
  28. Post-work ALARA reviews.
  29. Response and investigation of unplanned event investigations.

Qualifications:
Master’s degree in science or engineering or honours degree in health physics or honours degree in science or engineering with post graduate studies and over 10 years’ experience in health physics or related discipline.

  • Ability to wear protective clothing and work in a hazardous environment.
  • Mature outlook and proven good judgement.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Knowledge of recommendations and guidelines of radiological protection standards
  • Knowledge and understanding of radiation protection philosophies, procedures, equipment and techniques used both in theory and practice
  • Knowledge of Environmental Dispersion Modelling
  • Experience with decommissioning of Nuclear Fuel Ponds, Hot Cells and In-ground Tanks.
  • Use of Microsoft computer software, knowledge and use of databases
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work to meet objectives and targets
  • Ability to make decisions based on established requirements, procedures and practices.
