This position is one of a small team of Architectural Designer/Space Planners in Site Planning & Property Management that provide support across the CRL site for office space allocation, design and moves.  The team is also responsible for ensuring common areas (e.g. lobbies, conference rooms) are furnished appropriately and maintained and provide Subject Matter Expertise on architectural elements of projects, such as interior and exterior finishes and colour.  In addition, the team creates and maintains floor plan drawings for all buildings across site.  The position interacts with many different groups and staff members across site, particularly Administrative Assistants and Managers of branches.



  • Prepares and maintains, with high degree of accuracy, base building drawings (i.e. floor plans) using AutoCAD and uploads them into the CRL Facility Information System (FIS).
  • Ensures that space information is accurate in the CRL Facility Information System (FIS).
  • Completes monthly audits of assigned buildings to monitor condition, required maintenance and FIS accuracy.
  • Monitors common space and resolves any findings so that areas are maintained, clean and project a professional appearance.
  • Identifies aesthetic and structural deficiencies and submits work requests.
  • Identifies, addresses and reports safety hazards.
  • Allocates office space in accordance with CNL corporate space guidelines.
  • Approves office moves using CRL Moves Workflow application.
  • Designs offices and workstations in accordance with CNL corporate space and furniture guidelines and the National Building Code to make effective and efficient use of corporate real estate.
  • Meets with internal customers to identify and facilitate space assignment and layout to best accommodate their business needs.
  • Develops proposals and prepares architectural concepts, design layout drawings and Scopes of Work for minor renovations.
  • Sources and selects office furniture and related products.
  • Prepares appropriate drawings and parts lists for procurement packages.
  • Submits orders on behalf of customers and SPPM through iProcurement.
  • Arranges and supports removal of existing furniture in accordance with CNL waste processes.
  • Arranges and oversees installation of new furniture.
  • Provides timely and effective responses to customers regarding space and furniture issues.
  • Completes tasks assigned through the CRL Space & Design Workflow application.
  • Assists in the revision of corporate space and furniture guidelines, when needed, from time to time.
  • Supports various groups when called upon to assist with execution of their respective projects.



  • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology, or equivalent formal education, and a minimum of two years of pertinent technological experience.  OR Secondary School Graduation or its equivalent and a minimum of six years of pertinent technological experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
  • Strong working knowledge of architectural concepts, techniques and practice.
  • Working knowledge of and experience in facility management, interior design and space management is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of office design, furniture and finishes with a strong aesthetic design ability would be an asset.
  • Ability to conceptualize the use of furniture systems and related office products and convey this concept to customers.
  • Knowledge of CRL’s Facility Information System (FIS) is an asset.
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and be capable of producing neat, legible and accurate drawings in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of software (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to perform work with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Above average communication skills, both written and verbal, along with tact and good judgment.
  • Above average interpersonal skills in order to interact with a wide variety of customers and other support organizations at CRL.
  • Ability to manage a large volume of tasks and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
