Summary:

Responsible for providing a safe and enjoyable experience at various arena and pool locations throughout the City.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide basic customer service to patrons, including but not limited to:
    • Answering questions both in person and over the telephone,
    • Assisting them on or off the ice.
  • Ensure that all public and employee areas of the facility are safe, clean and tidy at all times.
  • Ensure patrons adhere to skate and swim program rules.
  • Perform on-ice Skate Patrol as assigned.
  • Perform a variety of on-ice maintenance duties, including but not limited to:
    • Assisting with floods,
    • Moving nets, and
    • Clearing snow.
  • Perform a variety of general maintenance duties, including but not limited to:
    • Custodial duties,
    • Equipment set up and removal, and
    • Minor maintenance.
  • Operate assigned equipment including floor scrubbers, side to side scrubber, power washers and shop vacuum.
  • Set up equipment for regular and special events.
  • Report any problems / incidents / accidents or damages to supervisor on duty in a timely manner to ensure a clean, safe and healthy facility.
  • Must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Corporation Policies and Procedures and any other applicable legislation.

Position Requirements:

  • Must be available to work 16 to 24 hours per week, including weeknight and weekend shifts.
  • Must have own CSA approved safety footwear, skates and helmet.
  • Strong skating skills and knowledge of safe on-ice practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with and for the public in a polite manner.
  • Ability to work with a team.
  • Ability to perform moderate to hard physical labor, lifting up to thirty (30) lbs.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision.
  • Valid certification in Standard First Aid and CPR with AED (Defibrillator).
  • Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness training.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.

Wage: $18.25

Expected Work Location: Various City Arenas

Hours of Work: Up to 24 hours per week
