We are currently looking for a Cargo Superintendent to provide cargo related technical support to the Operations and Chartering Department.



Key responsibilities include:

For the Chartering department

  • Prepare proposed stow plans
  • Assess the acceptability of cargo for safe shipment
  • Assess suitability of ships for certain cargo or contracts
  • Provide technical information about the vessels
  • Assist in the evaluation of suitability of shore installation
  • Provide advice on cargo handling restriction
  • Provide advice on different seamanship’s related topics

For the Operations department

  • Verify stowage plans
  • Provide technical background for cargo lift discussions
  • Give guidance on applicable regulations for each type of cargo
  • Give guidance on cargo hold preparation and cleaning
  • Provide advice on different seamanship’s related topics
  • Report on encountered situations related to cargo work
  • Discuss stowage or cargo related topics with masters and owners

Out of the office

  • Supervise stowage and securing of cargo
  • Supervise stevedore work when required
  • Supervise special loading or unloading operations
  • Assess berthing installations suitability
  • Supervise complicated cleaning operations
  • Act as the company representative
  • Provide the link between the office and the ship


  • Keep informed of developing regulations (national and international)
  • Communicate knowledge and experience to colleagues (operations and chartering)


The ideal candidate has:

  • Minimum 2 years Seagoing experience as a Deck Officer or higher level
  • Knowledge of ship construction and structural strength
  • Knowledge/experience in stowage, lashing and other requirements for the carriage of breakbulk cargoes, in particular steel
  • Knowledge/experience with grain stability calculations and regulations
  • Knowledge of IMSBC Code and other relevant regulations and conventions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with ships masters and crew
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to make decisions and work independently when required
  • Computer proficiency
  • Flexibility to travel and the ability to work outside of regular business hours (including some weekends) as required
  • English required, French is a preferred asset
