What will you do as a Purchasing Team Lead? 

Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Purchasing Team Lead is responsible for managing and coordinating all areas relating to purchasing from LMI.  This position will be responsible for purchasing of components and materials to cover the production forecast and ensure production operates at an optimum level, as well as purchasing materials for new product introductions, R&D, and other departments as required. The Purchasing Team Lead supervises the purchasing staff and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. In addition to direct buying and management of your own portfolio, this position is responsible to support activities involved in sourcing parts, evaluating and negotiating with suppliers.  Direct work will include issuing purchase orders, ensuring timely deliveries, managing standard costs, data integrity, maintaining appropriate inventory levels to meet production demand while minimizing inventory exposure.

Typical duties, responsibilities and activities include:

  • Leads and provides direction to the purchasing team on order management and managing inventory from demand generated by demand planning as well as R&D orders.

  • Conducts purchasing activities in accordance with the Quality Management System requirements for production builds.

  • Oversees maintenance of all product related certification documentation.

  • Provides policies and reviews existing policies to meet LMI’s goals of inventory availability, inventory levels and internal requirements.

  • Supports supplier evaluation, selection, and management ensuring suppliers are able to meet LMI requirements for quality, on-time delivery, price, supply methodology and payment terms.

  • Supports negotiations around pricing, delivery requirements, and quantities with suppliers striving for cost reduction opportunities and ensures level of inventory is optimized.

  • Works with the Quality Team and suppliers to identify and eliminate quality issues.

  • Maintains optimal stock levels by setting and maintaining safety stock levels and economic order quantities in Netsuite to satisfy demand for manufacturing.

  • Works with the MRP/ERP Analysts to ensure MRP/ERP tools and reports are accurate, efficient, and meeting the requirements of the purchasing team.

  • Organizes regular pricing and inventory level reviews.

  • Ensures accurate and timely forecasting is being provided to key suppliers.

  • Ensures that technical documentation, product configuration and specification provided to suppliers are complete, accurate and up to date.

  • Supports work with suppliers for changes introduced by Engineering Change Orders.

  • Manages status and update purchase order and vendor related information in Netsuite database.

  • Proactively contributes to and implements continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Participate in the recruitment process for any hiring of new team members.

  • Provides guidance and coaching to direct reports and participates in the performance management process.  

  • Adheres to LMI Employee Policy Manual.

What you need to be successful?

  • Post secondary Technical or Business diploma or degree. 

  • Minimum 7 years of purchasing experience combined with at least 2 years of team leadership experience. 

  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems in a high mix manufacturing environment

  • Experience with contract manufacturing and dealing with off-shore suppliers.

  • Purchasing, inventory management, supply chain planning, logistics

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined

  • Solid interpersonal skills are required to function appropriately in a team environment

  • Knowledge of LMI product (preferable).
