Applications are invited for the position of ­­­­­­­­­­­­Dean, Business & Environment, located at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus.  The salary range is $146,373 to $195,162 for a 35 hour work week.  Additional hours may be required as necessary.  

Reporting to the Vice President Academic, the Dean plays a crucial role in maintaining the standards, integrity, and effectiveness of the academic enterprise, contributing to positive relationships with key external partners, including partners in the community, professional associations, donors, and regulatory and accreditation bodies. The incumbent will ensure that all programs offered within the Division meet or exceed established internal and external standards. In this role the Dean will lead the Divisional teaching, learning and service strategy ensuring continued student success. As part of the senior leadership team, the Dean will ensure alignment of the financial operations of the division with its academic mission.  

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Responsible for divisional oversight of all programs within the portfolio ensuring they meet or exceed internal and external standards for accreditation, relevance and quality; and that they comprise a strategic mix of offerings that are relevant to the needs of students, clients and the community at large.
  • Provides sound academic and administrative leadership, supervision, and direction to the divisional leadership team; and ensures the effective planning, development and delivery of all programs and facilities within the Division.
  • Provides leadership in the development and implementation of new academic programs and has oversight with ongoing review of existing programs to reflect changing technology, economic and market influences, and employment opportunities.
  • Works collaboratively to ensure the development of new College programs and services are consistent with the College’s strategic plans.
  • Actively engages as a team member in College planning and special initiatives, contributing to the development of college policies and operating procedures to meet the needs of students, staff, client groups, community partners and government agencies.
  • Works collaboratively with academic administrators to monitor academic progress of students and is responsible for divisional retention and student success strategies.
  • Ensures that Divisional teaching, learning, service, financial, and strategic processes support student success.
  • Incumbent will foster strong, active partnerships with members of the community and donors, and will be an ambassador for Niagara College in the community.

Qualifications:  

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in a relevant leadership area.
  • A minimum of 9 years of progressive management/leadership experience in business or public sector settings and/or a post-secondary academic environment.
  • Excellent communication, management, human relations and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to handle student and faculty complaints and behaviour issues, make public presentations, provide meaningful feedback related to teaching and performance, and work effectively with a variety of individuals, teams and groups.
  • Experience in teaching at the post-secondary level.
  • A proven track record as an innovator and entrepreneur who exhibits a strong commitment to academic excellence and student success.
  • Proven capacity to build productive working relationships with partners from business, government and educational sectors in Canada and international settings.
  • Outstanding leadership skills to work collaboratively with faculty and others within the college.
  • Excellent administrative skills.

Preferred candidates may also possess:

  • A PhD in a relevant subject area.
  • Administrative leadership experience in the Ontario College system.
  • Experience managing within a unionized environment.
